Governor Gordon’s Education Initiative Prepares Recommendations for Review
Cheyenne, Wyoming – Gov. Mark Gordon’s Education Initiative has completed statewide listening sessions and is now preparing a series of policy recommendations.
Building on the momentum of a statewide survey that garnered more than 7,000 responses, the Governor’s Rethinking and Innovating Educational Delivery (RIDE) Advisory Group hosted 17 listening sessions attended by more than 200 participants . Participants included parents, students, employers, local employees and members of the community. The most common feedback received during listening sessions included support for a more individualized approach to learning, such as greater flexibility for students to move at their own pace.
Participants also hoped to expand their options by addressing standards that prepare students for careers and lives, an approach that aligns well with the Alumni Profile work the State Board of Education is completing. advocated. The RIDE Advisory Group is currently identifying opportunities for innovative approaches based on achievable and sustainable practices to help Wyoming students succeed in a rapidly changing world. RIDE’s work has included reviewing innovations not only in Wyoming, but in other states and countries, and consulting with experts and state school boards to determine how these approaches fit in Wyoming.
