Amidst the mediocrity of the Philadelphia Phillies Major League Ballclub, Andrew Painter’s once again dominance in the third start of his Double-A career was relatively unremarkable yesterday.
The 19-year-old pitching prodigy slammed seven innings against a tough Yard Goats lineup, allowing one run on eight hits and striking out nine.
Painter has done it all and some this season. At three levels, he has managed his 20 starts, culminating in his 94.2 innings in baseball with a 1.24 ERA. He allowed just his 57 hits in that span, with hitters only taking his 24 strides. Conversely, he took down his 141 batters on strike. These kinds of numbers over the course of almost 100 innings are borderline unfathomable.
It will be fascinating to see how the Phillies approach Painter and his workload next season. He’s still very young and no organization would want to rush their most talented prospects, but it’s intriguing that their premier talent could be red pinstriped so quickly next season. It’s an idea.

Luckily, one of Dalton Guthrie’s most prominent pieces of utility depth has been in absolute tears lately, posting three consecutive multi-hit efforts on Saturday. He was pulled out of that game early without giving a reason. Let the speculation begin again.
Guthrie has had his second straight career season, making a big leap in 2021 and achieving .302 and .839 OPS in 2022. His contacts and his tools are confirmed to be positive at this point.
Gasly, 26, has gone from nothing to something in the space of two seasons, proving he’s ready for the biggest leap of all.
Double A: Andrew Baker named Phillies System Pitcher of the Month
In a coveted announcement, the Phillies named Andrew Baker Saturday’s Minor League Pitcher of the Month.
In 11 appearances in August, Baker allowed just three earned runs and a 1.93 ERA. In that same span, he struck out his 23 batters and walked only four.
Something really suits young fireballers. He dominates on every level, including a spectacular appearance on Friday when Griff followed up his McGarry and scored his 3 in two perfect innings.
He has a chance to break through the Phillies system.
High-A: 2 more hits on Baron Radcliffe as Scorcher continues
For the second straight game, Baron Radcliffe gave the Blue Claws two hits. Both were single.
Radcliffe was named the Phillies’ Hatter of the Month for August on Saturday after recording an incredible 23-game slash. He batted . 347 with eight home runs and had a . 733 batting average. In that month alone, he surpassed his mark. 800 OPS in a season.

The 23-year-old has had a rough year when it comes to strikeouts.
It’s been a career season for him, and he’s sure to start 2023 with Double-A.
Single A: Threshers add Justin Crawford to injured list
After three straight days of postponement, the Threshers were finally able to score a doubleheader on Saturday. Players are probably a little rusty, explaining the lack of results.
Among other news, the Threshers placed Justin Crawford on Saturday’s seven-day injured list, though there were no specific injuries.
