Hamtramck — It was the same at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday night. Detroit City FC again failed to find his goal go-ahead and ultimately ended up with his draw scoreless against his eleven visit to Indy.
DCFC (11-10-6) dominated possession time (62%), had 7 on-net on 11 shots and completed almost twice as many passes as their opponents, but another frustration for Le It was the result. Rouge is in the middle of advancing to the playoffs.
The draw extended DCFC’s winning streak at home to seven. Le Rouge’s last win at Keyworth was against Atlanta United on 21 May.
“It was a frustrating night. When you’re in a game like that, you have too many possessions and too many balls and you can’t create clear chances or scoring chances, it’s just frustrating. I think it’s just feeling,'” head coach Trevor James said.
As time went on, DCFC moved up the heat in hopes of finding a way to a decisive tiebreaker and three points. Meanwhile, Indy his eleven seemed content with the draw.
In the final 20 minutes, Indy goalkeeper Tim Trilk was given a yellow card for wasting time, adding nine minutes of stoppage time at the end of the second half.
Man of the Match midfielder Brad Dunwell said: “It’s frustrating as a player, but I can understand it.” It’s a match for… don’t be too surprised, you should try not to get too frustrated.”
DCFC poured into chances in the second half and took the majority of their chances. However, at times, the impatience of wanting to become a hero seemed to overwhelm Le Rouge.
“At the end of the game, I got a little out of shape,” James said. “That way they can run up the middle of the field and create chances or shoot on goal or whatever it is. And hopefully I’d like to score the winning goal but obviously tonight is not.”
Despite first-half possession time (69%) and four shots, there was nothing to show for the effort as DCFC went into halftime with a 0-0 game. Le Rouge’s best chance of the first half came early. Conor Lutz missed a point-blank chance from the crossbar by heading the ball past Maxi Rodriguez’s goalkeeper.
DCFC had another great chance in the 72nd minute when Rodriguez played the ball inside the area on Antoine Hopnot’s header, but the pass was just behind the target and Hopnot could only push it wide. I could not do it.
Moments later, in the 76th minute, Hoppenot sent a low cross into Rodriguez’s area, but Rodriguez’ shot on the run was stopped by a diving trick.
Richard Foster made his USL Championship debut for City when he substituted for Rhys Williams in the 79th minute.
Le Rouge’s consolation prize was DCFC’s closest FC Tulsa in the final playoff spot losing 2–1 to Atlanta United. With his seven games left in the season, DCFC is maintaining his nine-point lead in Tulsa as he prepares for his Springs in Colorado on the road next Saturday.
