The transport company is already considering expansion even before it starts building a new facility in Gretna.

Tradesman Trucking was formed in 2012 as a shuttle transit truck company to help Yankee Candle move products and goods between its Blairs and Forest facilities, a news release reported. A two-phase project to purchase additional land will total a $6.5 million investment. The plan is that work on the land will begin in September, and construction on the building will begin in early spring. The facility is expected to be operational by August 2023.

As demand grows, the employee-owned company will branch out into Tradesman XDR, processing wood for biomass, crushing concrete and asphalt as a substitute for aggregates, and selecting civil and sanitary products, according to a release. The focus is on waste tires as an alternative to aggregate in applications.
As for the new Gretna facility, it will serve Tradesman Trucking’s needs as a traditional terminal and cross-dock facility while also serving as a recycling yard operation for Tradesman XDR. The office space will be the new headquarters for both businesses.

The county said the company uses the state’s Enterprise Zone program but does not receive any local incentives.
Karen’s Gretna Supervisor Darrell Dalton said: “It is always exciting when a business decides that Pittsylvania County is a place they want to invest, put down roots and create jobs.”
Gretna Mayor Keith Motley said he was thrilled that Trademan would move in as the industrial park’s first tenant.
“We look forward to them joining our business community and hope this is the beginning of further development,” Motley said.
