The Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports are proud to once again partner to recognize the best coaches Western New York has to offer through the 2022 High School Football Coaches of the Week program.
Bills and ADPRO Sports will present a Coach of the Week award to the national team’s head tackle football coach, highlighting not only the team’s achievements on the field, but also some of the work they do off the field in their communities. Both regions’ Coaches of the Year will be elected during the January 2023 game between the Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots at Highmark Stadium.
Each Coach of the Week winner will receive a $1,000 grant from the Buffalo Bills and ADPRO Sports. Each Coach of the Year winner will receive an additional $1,000 towards the program. The winner will be chosen by a panel of local high school football experts.
Buffalo Regional Coach of the Week #2
Sweet Home coach Jeremy Zimmer was named Buffalo Regional Coach of the Week for Week 2 after leading the Panthers to a 49-15 victory over North Tonawanda this weekend. Zimmer is set to return to the sidelines in 2022 after being forced to miss part of the 2021 season due to a medical emergency.
The Panthers trailed 7-6 after the first quarter, but pulled away early with 28 points in the second. Coach Zimmer and the Panthers are currently 2-0 this season.
Coach Zimmer has been a football coach at Sweet Home for 25 seasons, spending time at the amendment, freshman, JV and varsity levels. He was part of the staff who won the NYS Championship in his 2008 and 2009 and was runner-up in 2012.
Coach Zimmer was appointed head coach of the national team in 2018 and started with a squad of just 18 players. The Panthers finished the season with an 0-8 record. He quickly set about rebuilding the program and the following year Sweet Home finished his 2020 Covid season with his 4-4, 3-2 record. Last year, the Panthers he finished 6-3 and lost in the Class A playoffs.
Coach Zimmer has players from his football program participate in several community programs, including a large flag football league for the district’s elementary school students.
As head coach of the national team, Coach Zimmer volunteers to participate in the program all year round. Starting in May, he started meeting with his team four times a week. In preparation for the season, the team was in his room three times a week with his weights in Buffalo and Rochester where he participated in 7-on-7 tournaments and Clarence and Ken He camped with West.
Aside from coaching, Coach Zimmer will be in her 25th year as a teacher at Sweet Home School District.
Rochester Area Coach of the Week #2
Bolivar-Richburg coach Steve Smith said the Wolverines beat Wellsville 42-24 last weekend and the Red Jackets, who have been unbeaten for the past two seasons, in Week 1. Named Coach of the Week. The Wolverines are 2-0 this season and will be joining his eight-a-side in Section V for the first time this year.
The Wolverines beat the Lions 36–0 in the first half, and the Lions started to fight back in the second half with 24 points, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Wolverines.
Coach Smith is in his eighth season as head coach of the Wolverines national team, but has been a football coach for the Bolivar Richburg for over 25 years. He is also a member of the Section V Football Committee. Off the field, Coach Smith says he teaches 6th grade world history and science, where he has been teaching for 33 years.
During the summer, many Wolverines volunteer as assistant coaches for Bolivar Richburg Youth Football.
In the Wolverines football program, Coach Smith focuses on limiting contact throughout the week of practice to prevent injury.
In 2021, the team won the New York State Scholar Athlete Award.
