Back in the spring, The Athletic’s Jeff Howe spent time with Robert Kraft. Here’s what the Patriots owner told Howe about his second-year leap that the team can expect from his Mac Jones.
“Time will tell. To be fair, part of it is the chemistry of the people around him. The free agency we brought in last year wasn’t performing as high as we’d hoped. I hope some of them will (produce)” ) because they have adapted to the system this year. And we are making changes to take advantage of what they do best. In my opinion, there is still a lot of untapped talent.
Robert Kraft attended the game in Miami on Sunday. I don’t think he saw much tapping.

Johnne Smith didn’t catch until the second half of the third. did not.
My understanding is that Kraft was definitely aware that Vaughn had been left in mothballs all day. We don’t know if Bourne’s ultimatum has been served, but he’s going to have a much bigger role going forward.
Between Bourne, Smith and Nelson Agholor, Kraft signed a $90 million deal. And they account for nearly $30 million in cap space this season.
Matt Patricia better find a way to use them. especially bones. My understanding is that using bones is Patricia’s decision. Whether it’s plan-related, Bourne-related, or Patricia doesn’t like the way Bourne does business, sources say he and Bourne aren’t exactly a match. Hmm.
It may be so. He caught his 55 balls for 800 yards last year and he drew 79% of those thrown by McJones. He was 2 drops. I haven’t heard of him from anyone, except that it’s going to be a pain in the ass for Bourne to carry the cards, but let’s get along and bring him the ball.

Bill Belichick would say the Patriots don’t target anyone. OK. fine.
Patricia then needs to change that MO or do some planning to get it to players like Bourne and Smith who both delivered when they finally saw the ball.
Please understand that if the Patriots are over 7 points, the aforementioned number of contracts doesn’t matter.
But they didn’t do it on Sunday. And their second-half possessions ended repeatedly with throws into busy traffic. Jacobi Myers hit third-and-six for one, Hunter Henry for 4-and-3, and a 28-yard heave to Devante Parker for 4-and-1, but fell apart. The Patriots took a break when officials caught a defensive hold during the route.
None of these plays felt like a design inspired by the moment I had to do it, leaving my Mac tossed around.
This is the most overall talent the Patriots have had in a skill position since 2016. It doesn’t have to look like that. They shouldn’t score a single touchdown. And they should never stop anyone who can help them.
