Men's Hockey World Cup 2023 draw highlights: England, Spain join India in Pool D;Pool A Australia, Argentina

Hello and welcome to Sportsstar’s highlight Hockey men’s world cup 2023 lottery.

This is what the pool looks like after the draw.

Pool A: Australia, Argentina, France, South Africa

Pool B: Belgium, Germany, Korea, Japan

Pool C: Netherlands, New Zealand, Malaysia, Chile

Pool D: India, England, Spain, Wales

    We’ll move on to a draw to determine which team will occupy the third spot in each pool.

    South Africa will be placed in Pool A. A rematch of the Commonwealth Games will take place as Proteas joins the Australian pool.

  • ⦿First is India. Odisha CM Patnaik announced that India will be classified in Group D.

    FIH CEO Thierry Weil is addressing the audience and he plans to begin the process soon. As the host country, India automatically qualified.

    India is set to become the only country to have hosted the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup four times.
  • ⦿The draw is just a few minutes away Chief Minister of Orissa Naveen Patnaik takes the stage. The Minister of Sports of Orissa is Tusharkanti Behera, FIH CEO Thierry Weil and COA member Hockey India SY Quraishi are in attendance along with a series of celebrities related to sport and the state.

    It will then continue on Row 3 of each pool (including Spain, Malaysia, France and South Korea) and finish with Row 2 of each pool (including Germany, England, Argentina and New Zealand).

The draw for the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 will take place today at 12pm (IST) in Bhubaneswar with 16 participating nations including India, Japan, England, top-ranked Australia and more.

The draw will be conducted by FIH CEO Thierry Weil and will also be attended by Odisha Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik.

The Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 will be held from January 13 to 29, 2023 at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and Vislamunda Stadium in Roorkela. Belgium are the current champions. They won their first title in the 2018 final against the Netherlands.

The 16 participating teams will be divided into 4 pools and each group will be divided into 4 teams.

Top teams in each group will be pre-determined based on standings. India is the host, occupying the top row of Pool D, ahead of Germany in fourth place. Australia, Belgium and the Netherlands are the top three teams starting at the top of their respective pools.

India is currently fifth in the FIH men’s hockey rankings with 2394.49 points. Australia tops the list with her 2951.92 points, followed by Belgium with her 2842.77 points.
