Carlton and Port Adelaide drew their first draw of the AFLW season after the Blues’ first gamer Lily Goss’ shot failed when the final siren sounded.
The Blues were trailing by 13 points at halftime and threatened to overtake inexperienced opponents at Icon Park on Sunday.
They kept the Power scoreless in the final term, with Goss scoring a high-contact free-kick from Kate Thurman with seconds left to give her a chance to win the game.

With sirens blaring, she landed a kick from just inside the 50-meter arc, but didn’t go the distance.
The teams finished the lock with 4.3 (27) each, resulting in expansion side Port Adelaide failing to secure their first win in the national competition.
It happened after the Power lost the first two rounds of their debut season to the West Coast and Western Bulldogs.
Power Captain Erin Phillips told Fox Footy, “It’s a very strange feeling to have a draw.”
“I’m really proud of our group and they seem to keep growing every week.
“In the previous two games, we had momentum and the game was getting there.
“It’s a shame we didn’t cross the line, but we’re definitely making progress.”
Carlton had three players celebrating the 50-game milestone, Elise O’Dea, Jessica Dal Pos and Breen Moody, all scoring goals.
O’Dea got off to a perfect start by winning one of their two blues majors in the first quarter, but Port Adelaide fought back with phenomenal momentum in the second quarter.
Jade de Melo scored two goals and Power scored four in a row before half-time.
Moody and Dar Pos kicked just two goals in the second half to keep Carlton within two points early in the final term.
Darcy Vescio and Vaomua Laloifi both had chances to put the Blues in front, but fell far enough behind to level the scores.
Captain Kerrin Peterson (21 disposals), Mimi Hill (19) and Abby McKay (26) were among Carlton’s best players.
Impressive 18-year-old midfielder Hannah Ewings (21 disposals) stood out with power. We also received excellent service from Angela Foley (14), Abby Dourik (14) and Phillips (13).
The draw was Carlton’s first since their first AFLW season in 2017.

Port Adelaide’s quest for a maiden AFLW win continues and there may be no better opportunity to break the drought than against fellow expansion club Sydney at home next Saturday. The Blues next head west to Perth, Fremantle where he faces the Dockers at the Oval.
