Indiana’s Democratic candidate for the 31st Senate, Jocelyn Vare, won two major public education endorsements. Indiana’s National Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana’s 44th superintendent of public schools, officially endorse Vare. In Congress 2022, Vare joined teachers and administrators in opposing House Bill 1134. According to Vare, the bill threatened to impose legal burdens on educators, ignored student learning losses during the pandemic, and exacerbated Indiana’s teacher shortage.
