Casper — The soda shop craze that has its roots in Utah has moved to Casper. Husband and wife duo Perry and Anna Deighton opened Soda Springs His Drinks in Mills on October 22nd.
They noticed how well soda shops were doing not only in states like Arizona and Idaho, but also in their home state of Utah. They surmised that the soda business could do well in Casper if people flocked for flavored drinks in .
And they like soft drinks, they said. “It’s simple, it’s fun, and people enjoy it,” Ana said.
This was their first business venture and they had been thinking about it for almost a year. It took me a long time to figure out the location and details.
Their menu is vast. They have both Pepsi and Coke products, soda water, Red Bull, and cream soda, with over 36 syrups and several creamers.
We also started selling hot chocolate and cookies as the temperature dropped further.
The couple also posted their Drink of the Day on social media.
They have punch cards and are already giving customers 13 free drinks. Coming soon is stroopwafel, a type of light waffle-patterned cookie that originated in Pennsylvania.
While customers are free to create any combination of drinks, syrups, and creamers, Soda Springs has its own beverages, whose names correspond to a kind of ironic humor: Big Chungus, Princess Consuela, Fluffy & Dirty.
“I came up with them kind of late,” said Perry. “When we asked for name suggestions online, we received about 4,000 suggestions.”
Even on a windy and chilly Friday, Soda Springs Drinks keeps us busy.
Ana takes orders and completes transactions at the first window of a shack-like structure (six months of searching and refurbishment). While people are ordering, she writes down specifications on Styrofoam cups (all branded with stickers) before handing each to Perry. Their order is ready.
Not only did they open the shop, they are open every morning.
The other three employees, all in their teens, arrive in the afternoon for closing, but spend the morning together. This also allows her to spend time with her four children later in the day.
“Fortunately, we like each other most of the time,” Perry joked.
Soda Springs Drinks is still new, but Dayton’s already has regular customers, with eight or 10 people there “every day,” says Perry.
They also want to expand. Food truck next to the building in the summer. Another location in Casper.
Ana used the word “when” instead of “if” when talking about the idea.
“The Casper, Mills and Evansville communities have been very supportive,” she said. “I am very happy to have started my business here. It has been a huge community support and I appreciate it.”
